John Tanaka as he appeared in F-Zero GX
|First Appeared||F-Zero X|
|Later Appeared|| F-Zero GX|
F-Zero Legend of Falcon
John Tanaka is one of the mechanics working for the Galactic Space Federation alongside Dr. Clash. He happened into this occupation after his years of attending Leonid University, being taught by Mason Summer(Jody Summer's late father). This no doubt eventually led to meeting his professor's daughter, Jody, and instantaneously falling head-over-heels for her. Through Mason's teaching, John invented the J-Love-1, a robot utlizing the G-diffuser technology that Jody's father invented which aided John in his course work(through this, he eventually crafted the Wonder Wasp machine). After Mason died in a horrible accident on his way to the University, John made a solemn vow to look after Jody at any cost, even his own life. As flattering as the offer was, Jody non-chalantly turned it down given the fact that she can easily look after her own well-being given how well she had been raised. Despite this, Jonh continued to hover over Jody, sticking by his promise until the end. After Jody had entered the F-Zero races for the sake of her lost father, John strictly followed suit with his Wonder Wasp, never sullying his good word.
 F-Zero X
In the second console-based installment of the F-Zero franchise, John Tanaka was introduced as a young, spunky, and reckless pilot with a respectable yearning for Jody Summer. His overall original appearance hasn't honestly shifted much at all while transitioning to what it is today.
 F-Zero GX
In the most recent console-based title, John Tanaka shows us a little more of the personality hidden behind his overall bland appearance. This mainly consists of his overall modest and timid attitude paired with a solid work ethic and iron determination to complete all of his faroff goals. The answers he gives in the F-Zero TV interviews are fairly mild and generic, but the point previously stated is still adequately made clear.
 F-Zero Climax
Due to the lack of an actual storyline, besides being based off of the finale to F-Zero Falcon Legend(character-wise), John Tanaka returns in the spunky little Wonder Wasp with a very high speed and boost rate at the cost of less-than-commendable grip and strength levels.
 F-Zero Legend of Falcon
In the anime adaptation, John Tanaka is the managaer of Jody Summer's squadron in the Elite Mobile Task Force. In this show, he is a fullbred bumbler with an overall goofy attitude and antic-filled moments whenever the spotlight is trained on him in an episode(which is very rarely). Rather than harbouring a heavy crush for Jody, John secretly adores the famous singer, Kate Alen in this show, and even tries to formerly propose to her at one of her concerts on an intergalactic cruiseliner.
