The Rainbow Phoenix is the machine driven by the time-traveling detective: Phoenix. It was constructed by Phoenix himself in secret and used as his trusty transport for all of his patrol missions. Due to this, the Rainbow Phoenix was originally designed to be a time-travel vessel hidden under the guise of a racing machine. Since the technology backing this machine is centuries ahead of the time taking place in the current F-Zero Grand Prix and could easily lead even the most inexperienced pilot to the championship cup, limitations were no doubt taken to bring Phoenix's vehicle down to the level of the rest of the competitors for the sake of fairness.
[edit] F-Zero AX
In the original arcade port of the Nintendo Gamecube-released F-Zero GX, the Rainbow Phoenix(and pilot Phoenix)made it's very first appearance as a machine exclusively playable in this version of the game(it can also be unlocked in the GCN version by way of completing very hard missions in the game's Story Mode). Having a track performance that's so well-balanced that it's ready to match that of the Blue Falcon's, this machine is the perfect choice for a new player. It has an above-average boost power(which is drastically increased thanks to an exceptional top speed count)and body stat while it's control is a tad laggy but easily ignored.
